Although the kids have about a month and a half vacation from school, my summer vacation started on Wednesday for about 5 days. The first day we went back to Kaike beach which is 5 minutes from our house. We all had a great time and stayed for about 3 hours. We all got a little red, but not too bad. I caught a small jellyfish or comb jelly. I asked the life guards about it. They said it could sting, but is very weak and not dangerous. It's often said that after obon(around August 15th) many more jellyfish come to the beach and it's dangerous. Also, according to Japanese custom, don't go swimming during Obon which is a time when the ancestors come back for a visit. It's believed there are lots of ghosts around this time and they'll drag you down into the water. Anyway, I'm lovin the beach and we'll probably go tomorrow, maybe our last chance before Obon.
